Since it is the constant request of Evangelical Christians to ask Mormons to research the truth - we will do just that. Research to see if Shafovaloff's presentation is one of sound reason and logic. If it is not, then we must disregard his understanding as another failed attempt to reason with the Mormons.
The question arises is this: Are Evangelical Christians properly quoting 2 Nephi 25:23? Or, are they misquoting and missing the point entirely of what was contained in the context of 2 Nephi 25?

Today, there are many that talk about God. This is the easy part. It is easy to declare yourself to be a Christian. It is easy to live according to your will and way of thinking. However, when we truly live by God's divine laws - that becomes quite troublesome. No wonder many Christians have watered down the Gospel message. No wonder many Christians evangelize cheap grace. No wonder has the message of the Cross been more foolishly stripped of its power and authority. For Godly men and women of integrity to live righteously and obediently to God is offensive to those who live according to the cares and dictates of their mindset.
Seek God first and then all things may be added with good measure until our cup overfloweth with abundance and blessings
We are to discipline our very thoughts and actions to conform to Godly Wisdom and Righteousness.
We entrust our lives to Him without any hesitation. By doing so, God is sovereign and graceful to where He strengthens us to meet any challenge we may face. His strength becomes our strength. His wisdom teaches and guides us into His righteousness and peace.
This is a lasting and eternal peace that gives us confidence, wisdom, and empowerment to endure. It is different than the false sense of security and peace that the world may offer us. Instead of chasing after our illusion of happiness - let us chase after the reality and truth that is found in Jesus Christ.
It is our responsibility to heed those instructions and live by them. There is powerful virtue and value in living out the instructions and guidance of a Sovereign God
Dare we imagine Christ saying to those whom he ministered "Go, have faith God will heal you." and turn his back on them? How dare we stand and shame and turn our backs toward those faithfully coming to us and seeking relief? Do you not understand how much courage and humility it takes for an individual to rise out of their own shame and guilt - hand outstretched and asking for sustenance, kindness, mercy, and grace?
Christ has overcome the world and brings us peace of mind, wisdom, strength, love, and grace.
Authentic recovery separates those who are being in recovery and those who are doing recovery. Much like the Christian faith - this means an individual cannot escape their Garden of Gethsemane. We are tasked to experience the painful awareness of our behaviors that were the results of our dependence on substances, sex, food, gambling, et al. It is the painful process of moving toward the new life. Putting to death the old man in order to rise up with a newness of life. Unfortunately, many rather be in recovery instead of actually doing recovery.
