True spiritual disciplines of a mindful Christian life focuses on the purpose of Godliness within our hearts, minds, soul, and body. It is the true foundation of an authentic Christian faith. One that is exemplified within the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. It is these spiritual disciplines that one seeks to attain salvation and exaltation. They are the rock upon which we build our faith on.
As we see, the nature of sexual integrity and teaching of the law of chastity - especially among young people - is quite paramount to the foundation of Christian faith. It is not so much a teaching of oppressing someone. It is not a damaging mindset as the writer of ex-mormon blog insinuates. Neither is this based on fairy tales related to realizing a sense of authentic happiness. Sexual integrity and the teachings of the law of chastity has significant foundation in developing a resilient and healthy lifestyle. One that avoids giving into sexual temptation.
Christ being in the Garden of Gethsemane, being pressed down with the weight of taking the sins of all humanity upon him, caused grave emotional, spiritual, and physical stress and agony to where he experienced this rare medical condition. And, as Nelson teaches, it is in the Garden of Gethsemane that the Atonement began where Christ became the Sin-Bearer. Yet, is it any wonder that modern Christians who lack literacy in scriptural teaching lay claim to something they consider to be false and inconsistent?
It is through Christ's infinite and profound atonement that we are able to come to a place where we place our hope and trust in God. This hope and trust provides for us an assurance for whatever challenges may lay ahead in our spiritual journey. We may face desperate circumstances. Personal adversity. And seemingly impossible social upheavals to contend with. Yet, He is faithful toward us because he has called us into a fellowship with his Son - Jesus Christ (See, 1 Corinthians 1:9, paraphrased). And, his promise stands to protect us and strengthen us (See, 2 Thessalonians 3:3).
