The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord,
but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.
~ Proverbs 15:8, ESV ~
Wisdom begins with the fear of God (see, Proverbs 9:10). To understand this, we ought to concern ourselves with whom God truly is. It begins with our immersion into reading Holy Writ. For there, we learn of God’s character. His heart. His devotion. Those who find understanding will be able to recognize God’s imprint within every fabric of creation. One of which is God’s desire for true authentic worship. For, this is what Christ taught the Samaritan woman at the well – to worship in spirit and in truth.
There is a difference in the demonstration of worship and the essence of worship. Today, it seems many people preform more of a demonstration of their worship toward God and miss out on the essence of worship. And, what are we to do to come to a place of worshiping God in spirit and truth? We are to be living sacrifices. Transforming our thoughts and hearts toward His will and good pleasure. God does not entertain demonstrations of worship. He desires our complete and total devotion toward His will and desires. It is the difference between superficial and authenticity.
Today, I will allow myself to enter into the essence of worship and not mere demonstration of my devotion toward God. I long for God to enter into my life and heart. Recognizing His satisfaction in the communion between my soul and my heart.
